Governor Burns congratulated space industry leaders on formation of the Florida Defense-Space Industries Association, Inc., an industry-led organization hoping to secure more defense and space related contracts for Florida industry.
From left are Parker Painter, Jr., of Orlando, James Healey of St. Petersburg, Robert Gilson of St. Petersburg, all leaders of the new organization, Governor Burns, Chairman Charles W. Campbell of the Florida Development Commission, and George Tornwall, Jr., member, Florida Development Commission.
Biographical Note
In 1955 the Florida State Improvement Commission, established in 1945, and the Florida State Advertising Commission, established in 1945, merged to form the Florida State Development Commission. In 1969 the latter merged with the Florida Industrial Commission, established in 1935, to form the Department of Commerce.
