This agreement made this day of one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven (1867) between Mrs. J.J. Alexander of Jefferson Co. Florida of the first part and Isaac Taylor, Watty, and Elizabeth Madison of the said county and state of the second part. Witnesseth that the said Mrs. J.J. Alexander agrees with the said laborers above mentioned to give for their cultivation from fifty to sixty acres of land situate[d] on the plantation known as Viola for the period of one year without hindrance or interference, and she furthermore agrees to furnish two animals, and all the plantation tools, such as ploughs, hoes, etc. necessary and the seed for planting and the feed for the stock and laborers employed viz. twelve quarts of corn per day, [inserted words - work fodder] for the animals, and three pecks of meal and twelve pounds of meat per week for the hands. And the said Isaac Taylor, Watty, and Elizabeth Madison, in consideration of the foregoing agreement promise and agree to and with the said Mrs. J.J. Alexander, that they will properly plough and plant the said land above specified in Cotton, Corn, and Potatoes, and hold themselves responsible for their labor and industry, and the care of the stock and tools used in the cultivation of the said land. And they further agree that they will at the proper time properly harvest and house the entire crop planted. And in consideration of the faithful performance of their contract, the said party of the first part doth further covenant and agree to give the parties of the second part one third (⅓) of the entire crop made by them.
