"Sarasota Army Air Field facilitated several events in June 1944 to promote the war bond sale known as the Fifth War Loan. Activities included an 'open house' day at the base for bond purchasers, parades in both Sarasota and Bradenton, and an opportunity for bond purchasers to be photographed inside the cockpit of a P-40 Warhawk. A 'blockbuster' shell was also on display in Sarasota for bond purchasers to sign."
Accompanying note: "In this photo, several young women and an airman pose with the 'blockbuster' shell in front of Liggett's Drugs on Main Street in Sarasota. Margaret Nabona is seen signing the shell, while Evy McRoyan[later Larios] (second from left and holding a bond certificate) watches."
