Accompanying note: "With money in his hand, FAMU student Benjamin Cowins tries to get service at a McCrory's lunch counter on February 21, 1961. He looks toward the waitress, who is ignoring him. Two weeks later he was arrested at a Neisners lunch counter, which led to his spending thirty days in jail."
Biographical Note
Patricia Stephens Due was an African-American civil rights leader and activist. She was an educator, public speaker, author and life-long civil rights proponent.
