The engraving of the hotel included in the ad suggests the hotel was founded in 1876. The advertisement was printed on page 49-50 of Henry Lee, The Tourist's Guide of Florida (New York: Leve & Alden, 1885). The proprietors are listed as Stimpson and Devnell. Other sources reveal these were Edward C. Simpson and George A. Devnell.
