Note to Researchers:
Though the WPA field workers included extensive citations for the factual information contained in these county histories, it should be noted that these historical narratives were produced in the 1930s by federal government employees, and might reflect the inherent social biases of the era.

St. Augustine, 1, Nov. 1824
To The Honorable Board
of Land Commissioners
for East Florida.
The Individuals, whose names are recorded below, have for many years resided, and do still continue to reside at and in the vicinity of Cape Florida.
The first section of the Act of Congress of the 26 May 1824 allowing 640 acres of land, under certain conditions, to actual settlers previous to a specified time, would seem to extend to their cases; and under this impression the undersigned has thought proper to submit their claims for examination before your honorable board; that they may enjoy the benefits of that act if in your opinion they are so entitled.
It is believed that ignorance alone of the existence of the act of Congress adverted to; has prevented the individuals, whose claims are now submitted, from personally laying them before your honorable board; and this has operated as a motive with the undersigned for this volunteering in their behalf.
