Dear Merie,

I have just time for a short letter. It is raining hard right now but is only a shower. I am back in the survey game again have worked four days so far. Guess it will hold out longer than it did a year ago. It's that old drainage job. Was held

up because of shortage of funds. It is headed by a Bradford Man.

I believe you had a birthday last week. I regret my inability to send you something of value but [perhaps] you would like to see how I look now -- this is a fair likeness tho[sic] the dress is a bit rough.

The folks are all well but I [don't] think any of us have

heard from you lately.

Our county (Polk) voted bonds for ($1,500 000) one million five hundred thousand dollars to be used to build two hundred and seventeen miles of asphalt road through the county. The engineering is being done by the same people I was with last winter. I have a job promised when work begins which [probably] will not be far off.

How are you getting along now? Able to Keep Right Side Up I [suppose].
