Description

A series of letters from Louis James M. Boyd to his wife, Martha Jane "Jannie" Boyd. The letters are dated November 29, 1862, December 8, 1862, and December 9, 1862, from the USS Albatross at St. Andrews Bay. Boyd describes the destruction of the rebel salt pans along the Florida coast, his fellow soliders and personal matters, such as the joy he feels about the birth of his son while he is away.

General Note

Louis James M. Boyd served as a third assistant engineer aboard the USS Albatross, a screw steamer, during the American Civil War. Boyd met Jannie in Cedar Key, Florida, and they later moved to Baltimore, Maryland.
