The Venetian Gothic residence, translated "House of John", was designed by New York architect Dwight James Baum and construction was completed in 1926. It was bequeathed to the State by John Ringling, of circus fame, and operated since 1946 by a board of Trustees appointed by the Governor. Mansion located within the Caples'-Ringlings' Estates Historic District which was later added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
