Mortality schedule for the United States Census of 1860 for Hillsborough County documenting persons who died during the year ending June 1, 1860.

Census Taker's Remarks

This subdivision has been, during this census year, peculiarly healthy. Water, generally good. Soil sandy. Limestone rock. Pine timber, cedar, cypress and live oak. Fertilizers - lime, marl, and shell. Lime-stone and mineral springs. On rivers and streams, soil rich, mixed with marl. Swampy and numerous hammocks. Natural phenomena, sand and shell hills and sinkholes.

Examples include dropsy of the belly (ascites), the brain (hydrocephalus), the chest (hydrothorax), or the skin (anasarca) (Hooper, Lexicon Medicum, 1860).
