Dear Governors, It strikes me that the time has come in Duval County when you have got to take a strong stand against official misconduct. I understand that the Clerk of the Courts here, when the prohibition petition was presented here yesterday to the Board of County Commissioners, took the same into his custody and later on turned it over to the Times Union so that paper could publish the names of the signers with a view to having the list discredited and inducing some of the people to withdraw their names from the list, thereby running the risk of having the list lost or mutilated. You may ask me how I can prove that the list was given to the Times Union and I can simply say that it would have been a physical impossibility to have copied all the names and set them up in type in time for this morning's issue of the Times Union. A practical typesetter has assured me of this fact. I think you could do no better work for a suffering people who are trying to better the conditions in Duval County by relieving it or the baneful influence of liquor, than by thoroughly investigating the Clerk's office here and if you find the facts as I have stated, remove the Clerk for misconduct.
