Riddle Field, or No. 5 British Flying Training School, near Clewiston, was a training facility for British and American pilots from 1941 to 1945 during World War II. The Lend-Lease Act of 1941 allowed for the creation of seven British Flying Training Schools in the United States to train British pilots in safe air space. Florida native Beatrice Swain Szumanski worked at Riddle Field for two years starting in 1943.
