Travis of Denver, an oil and gas consultant in Denver, to journalist Drew Pearson, commending him on his idea for a "Free University of Cuba" in Florida and making recommendations for its establishment. This copy of the letter was forwarded to Governor Farris Bryant with one of Travis' business cards attached.

Dear Mr. Pearson: Congratulations on your heartfelt proposal to establish a “Free University of Cuba” on American soil, preferably in Florida as a mecca of free democratic learning for students from all Latin America, plus North American students who want to know more about Latin America. A private fund should be immediately set up with some Florida bank as trustee and steps taken to coordinate for such a project on an emergency basis. An interim faculty committee of Cuban refugee professors, doctors and jurists should be organized to initiate a university program and their salaries should begin as soon as funds are available so that they can give up their temporary jobs. Your excellent proposal will restore status, prestige and dignity to former University of Havana professors and help to inaugurate a counterattack against international Communism in the Northern and Southern halves of the Western Hemisphere Yours sincerely Maury M.
