General Note
This daguerreotype is one of the oldest photographs ever taken in Florida. It dates to about 1849 and was likely taken from an observation tower or rooftop on the northwest side of Key West near the corner of Front and Whitehead streets. Like most daguerreotypes, the image is reversed. Visible near the horizon are St. Paul's Episcopal Church (left) and First Baptist Church (middle), both located on Eaton Street.
