General Note
Before the 1960s, tens of thousands of Canada geese wintered in Florida, primarily in St. Marks and surrounding areas. But by 1967, Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission biologist Dale Crider and others pointed out the numbers had dwindled. In 1968 and again in 1974, the commission re-introduced hundreds of Canada geese to Florida, mostly in north Florida, including as Leon, Wakulla, Alachua, and Duval counties. Many of the present geese in the state come from these released birds.
