Mortality schedule for the United States Census of 1850 for Madison County documenting persons who died during the year ending June 1, 1850.

Census Taker's Remarks

This county generally is very healthy and so far no particular malady has been prevalent within its limits. The water near the rivers is strongly impregnated with lime, but in the interior good free stone water can be had by digging wells. The character of the soil is various. The high pine lands are sandy. Near the coast the lands are flat, covered with saw palmetto. The oak or hammock lands high generally & color of soil grey. Natural growth of timber pine, white oak, magnolia, live oak. Climate mild but sudden changes from heat to cold.
