This is Wolfson Park in Jacksonville, Florida. The park (which was home to a AA Minor League team, the Jacksonville Suns) opened in 1955- therefore this was one of the first games played at the park.

Mr. Rickey was responsible for getting Jackie Robinson signed to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1945.

John Henry "Pop" Lloyd

John Henry "Pop" Lloyd

Born April 25, 1884 in Palatka, Florida. Lloyd was a manager and player in the Negro leagues from 1905 to 1932. He was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977. Lloyd was a celebrated shortstop and thought by many to be the greatest baseball player of all time.

The photo shows Lloyd in Cuba wearing the uniform of the Habana Leones (Havana Lions).

The camp was comprised of World War I veterans (hence "Veterans Camp.") They were constructing the Welaka Fish Hatchery for the Federal Government, as well as an aviary and a municipal airport. Not clear if it is a CCC or a Resettlement Administration camp.

Elisha Matthew "Bitsy" Mott was born on June 12, 1918. He played one year of professional baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1945 and later became a personal security guard to Elvis Presley.
