1855 Census Returns: Marion County
Statewide Census Totals
On November 21, 1855, Secretary of State Frederick J. Villepigue submitted a report to Governor James E. Broome, containing a digest of the data obtained from the 1855 state census. Every county except Duval was represented in this data set. This report is contained in the appendix of the journal of the Florida House of Representatives for 1854-55. The tables from this report are provided here, although we have corrected many of the totals, averages and percentages for mathematical accuracy. Keep in mind that because we have no manuscript version of these figures for verification, the tallies of individuals, acres of land, etc. are based on the report as printed. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of the data.
