Jefferson County, Florida May 6th, 1867 Contract or agreement between John T. Parker of [Thomas County, Georgia] and Burt Sandridge and Stephen Samson of Jefferson County, Florida, first said Burt Sandridge and Stephen Samson agree to cultivate a portion of land belonging to said Parker, known as the Sauls place, about 50 or 60 acres, for which said Parker is to receive one-third part of the corn and fodder and one-fourth of the cotton raised on said land as the rent for the land provided, the land is well cultivated, but if said Parker should not think the crop on said land properly cultivated, he is to have five dollars per acre for rent instead of a portion of the crop. Also, if there should be a difference of opinion as to the cultivation of the crop, they agree to leave the decision to competent disinterested parties and abide their decision. [crossed out section: Furthermore agree to pay said Parker three dollars per acre for 8 or 10 acres land to be measured hereafter not included in the above contract.] Furthermore, said Parker agrees to pay said Burt Sandridge and S. Samson for all improvements they may make on said land: for all new fences, one dollar per hundred for the rails; for old rails put up by them, fifteen [cents] per hundred; for clearing land, three dollars per acre, except a small piece allowed near the house which goes in with the old land, all pay for improvements to come out of the rent at the end of the year.
